Earn the Credentials that Show Your Expertise in Professional Standards and Practices

It's the ultimate in professionalism--mastering proven, generally accepted purchasing practices and good management techniques. You can demonstrate your command of the profession through certification as either a Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO) or a Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) as offered through the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council (UPPCC). NIGP's seminars and workshops can help provide the knowledge you need to sit for Certification exams.

Certification Scholarship

The Committee awards annual scholarships to members who may need monetary assistance towards earning a UPPCC certification designation. Scholarship funds are available to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Current and active member of SCAGPO
  • Within one year of eligibility for certification
  • Funding for classes and/or testing will not be provided by candidate’s agency/entity
  • Supervisor will allow time away from work to attend classes/testing


Candidates interested in applying for the Certification Scholarship may do so by completing the Certification Scholarship Application and returning it to the Certification Committee Chairperson.  Awards are made in the fall of the year and announced at SCAGPO’s Annual Awards Banquet during the Annual Professional Development Forum and Trade Show. These Awards may be used in the following year. Awarded members may do so by petitioning the Certification Chairperson and providing them with a copy ofthe Certificate and all other appropriate information such as an invoice, registration form, or certification application.

Silent Auction Contributions

Members, vendors, and community members interested in supporting the Certification Scholarship may do so by contributing a monetary donation to the scholarship fund or by donating a gift to the annual Silent Auction held each year during SCAGPO’s Annual Professional Development Forum and Trade Show.  Proceeds from each year’s Silent Auction are used for scholarships awarded in the following year.  Those interested in making a contribution may do so by forwarding a completed copy of the Silent Auction Contribution Agreement to the Certification Committee.
