SCAGPO Awards


The Awards Committee is composed of three (3) past recipients of the James H. Barnes Award and two members at large. The previous year’s recipient of the James H. Barnes Award shall serve as the chairperson of the committee. The chairperson may appoint an assistant chairperson, with the consent of the president, to act in his/her absence. The purpose of the committee is to review the accomplishments of any SCAGPO member who has distinguished themselves in the areas of accomplishments, involvement in SCAGPO activities and promotion of professional development.

 

 

SCAGPO Buyer and Manager of the Year Awards

The Awards and Scholarship Committee is now accepting nominees for the SCAGPO Buyer of the Year Award and the SCAPO Manager of the Year Award. The forms below must be completed and submitted to the Awards and Scholarship Committee Chair.

BUYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Buyer of the Year award is given to a professional buyer of SCAGPO who has made significant contributions to the advancement of the purchasing profession and professional development. The SCAGPO award winner is announced during the SCAGPO Annual Forum. SCAGPO award winner will then be submitted to NIGP to compete with other NIGP Chapter affiliates for the following year’s NIGP Professional Buyer of the Year award. The NIGP award winner will be announced at NIGP’s Annual Forum. The following are criteria and information on nominees.

  • Nominees must be actively employed in public procurement
  • Buyer is defined as having little or no supervisory or management
    responsibilities in the organization
  • Criteria outlined in the entry form located on SCAGPO's website.

MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Manager of the Year award is given to a professional manager of SCAGPO who has made significant contributions to the advancement of the purchasing profession and professional development. The SCAGPO award winner is announced during the SCAGPO Annual Forum. SCAGPO award winner will then be submitted to NIGP to compete with other NIGP Chapter affiliates for the following year’s NIGP Professional Buyer of the Year award. The NIGP award winner will be announced at NIGP’s Annual Forum. The following are criteria and information on nominees.

  • Manager is defined as having supervisory or management responsibilities in the organization
  • Criteria outlined in attached entry form.

Service Awards


The Awards and Scholarship Committee is now accepting nominees for the B.D. Bland Distinguished Service Award and the James H. Barnes Award. We are seeking nominees who have distinguished themselves in accomplishments, involvement in SCAGPO activities, and have promoted professional development.

B.D. Bland Distinguished Service Award

The award gets its name from Billy Bland, CPPO, the first president of SCAGPO in 1978, and the 1980 recipient of the James H. Barnes Award. This award is given to a SCAGPO member who has given their service to SCAGPO or NIGP resulting in state/national recognition; who has provided active leadership in purchasing organizations and community organizations; contributed to education and professional development, and has promoted the good name of the purchasing profession.

James H. Barnes Award

The James H. Barnes Award is the highest award given to a SCAGPO member. This award is given to a person who has made outstanding contributions and distinguished accomplishments by involvement in SCAGPO activities and the promotion of the public purchasing profession.

Scholarships


SCAGPO offers Professional Development and Certification scholarships to members in pursuit of higher education and certifications.  Professional Development Scholarship recipients are chosen by the Awards & Scholarship Committee.  Certification Scholarship recipients are chosen by the Certification Committee.  Winners are announced during the SCAGPO Annual Forum.

Recipients of these specific (annual) Professional Development and Certification Scholarships must redeem their awards in the year following the award.  For example, Scholarships awarded in November 2015 shall be used January - December 2016.  They must also be used in the manner for which they were requested on the application, unless otherwise specified on the official certificate.  Awarded members may use their award by petitioning the appropriate Chairperson (Awards Chair for ProD Scholarship or Certification Chair for Certification Scholarship) and providing a copy of the Certificate in addition to the appropriate forms (registration, invoice, etc.).
